Bhadohi, India's carpet town entered the Guinness Book of World Records for crafting the world's largest handmade rug, to adorn the Grand Mosque in Kazakhstan's capital Astana, the biggest mosque in Central Asia.
The largest hand tufted rug/carpet measures 12,464.29 m² (134,164 ft² 72 in²) and was achieved by Patodia Contract (India) in Astana, Kazakhstan, as verified on 19 September 2025.
The hand tufted carpet was meticulously crafted in Bhadohi, India, renowned for its rich tradition in carpet weaving. Over one thousand skilled artisans contributed to its creation, a process that spanned more than six months. This monumental piece was later installed in the Astana Grand Mosque in Kazakhstan. The installation itself took 50 days to complete.
