#THTIndoFest2026, this year's edition of the annual, week-long, online
event of Tamil Heritage Trust, brings together eminent scholars, art
historians, curators, and researchers to explore the rich and diverse
journey of painting in India across regions, religions, courts, temples,
and living folk practices. From prehistoric rock shelters and the
murals of Ajanta to the vibrant temple paintings of South India,
centuries of artistic expression have shaped the visual culture of the
Indian subcontinent. The journey also takes us through Jain traditions,
Rajput and Pahari schools, as well as Sultanate, Deccan, and Mughal
aesthetics - each reflecting a fascinating history of artistic exchange
and cultural interaction. These traditions continue to thrive today
through devotional, folk, and tribal art practices rooted in community
life.
