Excerpts from articles by Randor Guy
"Krishna Bhakthi" was produced by Lena Chettiar and directed by the successful editor-turned filmmaker, R. S. Mani (the maker of, films like " En Magan", " Kannagi", "Devaki" and "Maman Magal) who also wrote the screen story. It was inspired by the notorious figure of history, Rasputtin the Mad Monk of Czarist Russia and a French novel, " The Monk". The dialogue was written by noted Tamil writers, S.D.S. Yogi (also a scholar, poet and filmmaker), 'Chandilyan' and Ku. Pa. Sethu Ammal. Lyrics were by Udumalai Narayana Kavi, one of the big names of Tamil cinema of his day. The sadly under-rated S. V. Venkataraman and also the classical musician, Kunnakudi Venkatarama Iyer, composed the pleasing songs. The lead players included P.U. Chinnappa, T. R. Rajakumari, and SP. L. Dhanalakshmi (Rajakumari's aunt), K.R. Ramasami, D. Balasubramaniam, N. S. Krishnan, T. A. Mathuram, and singing actress and also playback-singer, P. A. Periyanayaki. The film was a success and many of its songs became popular.

MLV appeared in a single scene in Lena's Tamil production, a musical movie, " Krishna Bhakthi" (1948).

In this film she sings in a king's court, a popular Saint Thyagaraja Swamigal composition in raga, 'sarasvati manOhari', "Enta vETukoNDu rAghavA.." Slim and sensuously attractive, MLV looks impressive on screen . and her accompanying artistes were all women. The on-screen 'mridangam'- player was Kumari N. Rajam who was an adept in playing on that inimitable percussion instrument. During the song recording the noted mridangam artiste of the day, S. V. S. Narayanan played on the mridangam. Kumari Rajam 'acted' the scene well because she knew to play the instrument!.

Along with Chinnappa, others sang in chorus and a well-known artiste, S. V. S. Narayanan, played the mridangam. Krishnan and Mathuram provided comic relief. Not many are aware that Carnatic music icon M. L. Vasanthakumari appeared on screen in a regal court sequence, and sang Entha Vedukonthu O Raghava. in Raaga Saraswathi Manohari. This was her only on-screen appearance. But, she sang off-screen. Indeed she was engaged to play the second wife of the potter-saint Gora Kumbhar in Sudharshan, a Jupiter Pictures production. But for personal reasons, she opted out after a few reels were shot and (Yogam) Mangalam replaced her.
