Republic Day Celebrations

The 55th Republic Day was celebrated with a colourful parade at Rajpath. Floral tributes were paid to the martyrs at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate by the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, arrived along with the President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, escorted by 46 ceremonial bodyguards on horseback. The National Flag was unfurled, the National Anthem played and a 21-gun salute was given to the President.

The recipients of the gallantry awards and the national bravery award-winning children were taken in procession on caparisoned elephants.
